Dr. Lucas developed a strong desire to help people from a young age. This desire ultimately led her to pursue a career in optometry. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Physiological Optics from The Ohio State University, she completed her Doctor of Optometry, also from Ohio State.
After completing her education, Dr. Lucas gained experience in a variety of clinical settings, including the Dooley Eye Center in Lake Havasu City, and Swagel Wootton Eye Center in Mesa, where she treated a variety of medical eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye care, and performed pre-and post-surgical care for patients undergoing cataract surgery, LASIK surgery, and diabetic laser procedures. She also served as a preceptor for optometry students during their training.
In 2007, Dr. Lucas opened her own practice in order to provide a different approach to eye care with a focus on personalized treatment plans. Her practice, Focused on Eyes, has become known for a warm and welcoming environment, as well as emphasis on patient education and empowerment. She has recently added a Center for Dry Eye and Ocular Aesthetics.
Dr. Lucas was invited to join the Mayo Clinic as a supplemental consultant, where she manages urgent and emergent ocular conditions. She is knowledgeable about the ocular effects of chemotherapy, evaluating patients for ocular complications of chemotherapeutic agents such as Blenrep and Elahere. She also participates as a consultant evaluating ocular side effects of research medications.
Throughout her career, Dr. Lucas has remained dedicated to her patients, and has always gone above and beyond to ensure that they receive the highest quality care possible. Her commitment to personalized, patient-centered treatment has made her a highly respected and sought-after optometrist in her community and beyond.
